Feasibility of a victim and witness support service in Scotland
A study of the feasibility of establishing a victim and witness support
service in Scotland. The project was undertaken in response to the Lord Advocate's proposal that such a service should be established. It involved considerable research with victims and witnesses of serious crime, as well as with the criminal
justice agencies and voluntary organisations involved in the criminal justice process and in the support of victims and witnesses. The research concluded that there is an increasing awareness of victim and witness needs amongst the criminal
justice agencies, but the provision of support is not consistent throughout Scotland, and there is scope for greater co-ordination between the agencies involved. It concluded that the case for a Scotland-wide service could be made, and
developed proposals for the staffing, operation and funding of the service. Contract value: £25,000 - £50,000
