Rural and retained firefighters in Scotland
A study of the experience and aspirations of rural and retained firefighters in Scotland.
Commissed by the Fire Service Inspectorate in Scotland, the project aims to identify how brigades can support their rural, volunteer and retained firefighters to best effect. The project is based on a questionnaire survey of all current
retained, volunteer and auxiliary firefighters in Scotland, with an additional survey of a sample of those who have left the service (other than for age retirement) over the past few years. The questionnaire responses are to be supported by
face to face and group interviews, as well as with interviews with senior fire officers in the brigades. Contract value: £10,000 - £24,999 Completed: November 2001 Publication: Report to HM Inspectorate of Fire Service, published 2002
